The tradition of bikur cholim (be-core kho-leem), Hebrew for "visiting the sick," is an imperative to visit and to inquire into the needs of those who are ill, homebound, or isolated. It is an expression of both responsibility and loving-kindness. Visiting the sick brings comfort and reinforces connections to life and a supportive caring community. Bikur cholim teaches skills which broaden our perspective and enhance our lives. Our mission is to raise awareness of this mitzvah. We support the development of bikur cholim activities by consulting, training volunteers, providing resource materials, organizing workshops and through our annual conference in New York City.
